Police investigate death of Northwest Missouri State student from St. Louis

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Two people have been charged in the death of a 21-year-old Northwest Missouri State University student.

Kevin Mooney and Tony Overlin were both charged with second-degree murder and first-degree assault, both felonies.

Police said in a news release that Tomarken Smith, who’s originally from St. Louis, died at a hospital early Friday after being assaulted by Mooeny and Overlin in Maryville.

Mooney and Overlin were later taken into custody.

Police did not release further details on the case.

Smith was a senior pre-professional studies major with a minor in coaching.

The suspects’ bonds were set at $100,000.
