1 Dead after shootout, car crash on Lucas and Hunt

(KMOV) -- Police are searching for suspects and what appeared to be overnight car accident is now the scene of a murder investigation.

Investigators shut down the area of Lucas and Hunt just south of Jennings as they sorted out the details of the crime. It reopened just before 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday.




Investigators on the scene tell News 4 that there was a shootout going on between two drivers.

While shooting at each other one car crashed into an innocent driver heading in the opposite direction. The driver of that car was not hurt.

The 40-year-old driver of the car that crashed was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

A man and a woman riding in that car were sent to Barnes Jewish Hospital. Another car was hit by a stray bullet. The woman driving the vehicle is not hurt.

Detectives are on the scene and investigating the case as a homicide.

Authorities are searching for a silver Lincoln with temporary Illinois plates.
