Today Pfizer leaders announced massive job cuts at almost all of its facilities worldwide. In all, the company will reduce staffing by 35 percent. Locally, 600 Chesterfield employees will lose their jobs. As of this morning 1,000 people worked at the west county location. The 400 remaining employees will continue to work in research and development field. All of the cuts will not officially take place until after the New Year.
I spoke to Chesterfield’s Mayor, John Nations, about today’s development, he told me while losing 600 jobs is painful, his goal is to bring in other employers to rehire the laid off employees.
Pfizer will now have 5 main facilities and 9 sub units; Chesterfield will be a sub unit.
