This afternoon, on the eve of a possible vote on the House Democrat Health Care Bill /thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z(H.R. 3962), I called congressmen who represent local districts with a question: are you voting yes or no?
Representatives Todd Akin and Blaine Luetkemeyer (both Republicans from Missouri) plan to vote no and prefer to throw their support behind an alternative House Republican backed plan, thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z H.R. 3400.
Russ Carnahan and William "Lacy" Clay, Democrats from Missouri, say they will vote yes on H.R. 3962.
In the undecided camp? Illinois Democrat Jerry Costello. He says he is still looking at the legislation and remains unsure as to which way he will vote. I asked if the issue of whether abortions will be funded by public money is the sticking point. I was told: it is one of the issues.
Keep in mind, as of Friday evening, there was still discussion over amendments to H.R. 3962. Which begs the question of whether the amendments will be posted in the on-line version of the bill, which I've included in the first paragraph of this blog.
