A funny thing happened on the way to the weekend, I decided to stay home in Saint Louis. The call of far-flung cities tempted me briefly, but sing along if you remember Bobby Brown (before reality tv) and his song "It's My Perogative".
I think I will discover fall in my own backyard. Last weekend, I drove the seven hours to my lake house in Arkansas, mentally reordering a few things and entertaining myself with fried food at truck stops. Occasionally, I peeked at the leaves...they were not dressed for a role in the 2007 fall foliage. In fact, the reds, greens, and golds I saw were at the department store where my mom and I started Christmas shopping.
But this weekend, the leaves are more prepared for their close-ups. Earlier in the week, I just so happened to catch a look at the Arch grounds. The trees are resplendent! And that's where I'll start this weekend: the Gateway to the West. Next weekend, I'll continue west as I drive to Kansas City to see my adorable little niece.
Have a great weekend...whatever you choose. I'm already looking for my favorite turtleneck and jeans. I might even get really ambitious and bake an apple pie...okay, maybe, I'll just have apple cider. But it'll be nice to spend the first real fall weekend at home. Set the clock back...kick back...and enjoy.
