When the NFL schedule came out this afternoon the exctiement of getting a little football fix was quickly replaced with dread as word came about what schedule the Rams were dealt. The Rams have to have the most difficult first 7 games of the season of any team in the league. Couple that with coming off a 3-13 season and a coach on the hot seat and this adds up to what could be a disastrous 2008 season.
The season starts in Philadelphia which is a tough place to win. That is followed up with the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants coming to St. Louis. A trip to Seattle for the defending NFC West champions is next. The Rams then have a legitimately winnable game against Buffalo at home before the bye. Then it is a trip to Washington, home against the Cowboys and then a trip to New England. That is a miserable stretch for a good team much less a team that went 3-13 last year.
There are two things you can hang your hat on though Rams fans. First it appears the talent level has risen out at Rams Park and that is before they have even made a draft pick. Second this is the NFL. Things very rarely shake out the way you think they will. It is a short trip from the outhouse to the penthouse and vice versa. It is just as probable that all of those teams that were dominant last year suffer injuries and aren't as good as they were as it is for them repeating their 2007 performance.
