There are certain moments that happen in life when you realize at that moment that this is something that you will remember for a very long time. I have a feeling, like a lot of Cardinals fans, that yesterday was a very special moment that won't be forgotten by anyone for a long time.
The Cardinals honored Stan Musial on the 50th anniversary of his 3000th hit and it was something that you just can't quite put into words. There is no question that Stan Musial is the greatest Cardinals player ever. He didn't need the adulation of fans yesterday to tell him that. I think though the fans and the organization wanted to say Thank You for everything he has done for the franchise.
Not to be too sad or syrupy but the reality is that Stan is not doing so well these days at 87 and doesn't quite get around like he used too. Yesterday may have been his goodbye to the Cardinals fans. I am not nearly a talented enough writer to condense all of his accomplishments or laud how great of a man he is but I will say without question he is one of the 5 most impressive athletes I have ever met in my life. Someone who you can't say a bad word about. Someone who you would be proud representing your team and your city. For 60+ years The Man has done that.
Yesterday's tribute was very special. Let's hope that Stan can make it to the All-Star Game next year where he can receive the national acclaim and one more big hug from the fans that he so richly deserves.
