I know that since we are in St. Louis the NBA is an afterthought but I will tell you for me this year's playoffs have probably been the most interesting to me since the mid-90's. I haven't been able to put my finger on why this year is different. I think a part of it is that the level of play is reminiscent of the way the playoffs used to be. Each game has been played at such an intensity that you can tell that the players are 100% giving it their all.
It also might have something to do with the reemergence of the "glamour" teams. I am admittedly a long-time Detroit Pistons fan but there is something right in the world when the Celtics and Lakers can wind up facing each other for the NBA Finals. That being said I am think it will be the Spurs and Pistons who wind up playing for it all.
Since the Blues have been done for 6 weeks I also know that for a lot of people hockey is dead till next October. Those people have missed out on the emergence of the next dynasty in hockey. The Pittsburgh Penguins before it is all said and done have the chance to be as good as the Edmonton Oilers of the 80's. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the rest have been thrilling to watch as they have steamrolled into the Stanley Cup. The 2008 Stanley Cup will go to Pittsburgh and I predict it will be the first of many.
I know people are into the Cardinals as summer is around the corner. But to be honest a late night May game against the Padres is no match for playoff basketball and hockey to me.
