(KMOV) – Alderman Antonio French is frustrated with the way police decided to fix the problem of people cruising through Fairground Park.
“The answer is not just to say no one is welcome, put up barricades, and say no one can drive through the park,” French said.
Police had been receiving calls about many people cruising around in cars and congestion issues on Sundays at Fairground Park. In order to fix the problem, police put up a number of barricades to deter drivers. However, this also deterred many from going to the park at all.
At a nearby O’Fallon park, cars were only allowed in after police checked registration, but no vehicles were allowed to enter Fairground Park.
St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson told News 4 the police department has been implementing the strategy since 2009.
