(KMOV.com) – Construction on the Poplar Street Bridge will affect daily commuters for about a year starting Tuesday evening.
After the evening rush hour, crews will close the ramp from the westbound side of the Poplar Street Bridge to Interstate 44 and Memorial Drive. The ramp will be closed for one year.
The Missouri Department of Transportation recommends drivers use the new Stan Musial Veteran’s Memorial Bridge and Eads Bridge. Officials say the Martin Luther King Bridge will only be an option for motorists until August, when resurfacing work on the bridge begins.
The work is part of a larger project to make the ramps onto I-44 and I-55 southbound two lanes wide. MoDOT says it will also ensure the curves on the ramps are not as sharp.
