Diamondbacks name LaRussa Chief Baseball Officer

(BaseballStL) – Former Cardinals’ manager Tony LaRussa will be wearing a different shade of red as he heads to the Arizona Diamondbacks to become their new Chief Baseball Officer.

Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall announced the hiring Saturday. The 69-year-old former skipper comes in to help a Diamondbacks team that is 16-28 as of Saturday.

“The entire organization is obviously frustrated with the results on the field,” said Hall, “and we are looking to improve.”

“Tony brings us a wealth of knowledge, experience and success. He is excited and enthusiastic about the challenge and we are fortunate to have this Hall of Famer on board and a part of the team.”

LaRussa, who will be inducted into MLB Hall of Fame this summer, retired as the Redbirds’ manager after winning the 2011 World Series. LaRussa was just in St. Louis giving the commencement address at Washington University.
