THOMPSONVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities have released the name of a 25-year-old southern Illinois coal miner who died after being crushed on the job.
The Franklin County coroner says William Daniel Payne died Wednesday while working at Sugar Camp Energy complex in rural Thompsonville.
The Johnston City man died when he became caught between a machine and a coal rib. An autopsy showed he died of internal bleeding and blunt force trauma.
It’s the second fatal accident in seven months at the complex. A 36-year-old miner was crushed to death last November when a piece of coal rolled on top of him.
Wednesday’s accident is being investigated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
WSIL-TV reports a funeral for Payne will be held Sunday at a Johnston City funeral home.
