(KMOV.com) - St. Louis police are investigating a home invasion in a South St. Louis neighborhood that police said led to one woman being held face down on her floor while her home was ransacked.

Police said the incident happened Tuesday afternoon in the 3800 block of Blaine Avenue.

The woman reported to police she was in her residence when three unknown suspects kicked-in the front door, one of the suspects them allegedly held her down while the others rummaged through her bedroom looking for money. Police said the victim told the men where to find some money, then they left the home with cash. Witnesses said they saw them run through a gangway and out of sight.

When police arrived to the scene they said there was evidence the door was kicked in. The 27-year old victim was not hurt.

A construction crew was restoring a house across the street from the victim’s apartment when the home invasion happened.

“The lady that lived in the apartment approached me crying,” said Rusty Bain, one of the construction workers. “Of course I went down the stairs to ask if she was ok. She starts telling me that three guys kicked in the door, held her face down and robbed her.”

Witnesses tell News 4 several police crews, the crime scene unit, and canines canvassed the area looking for the three suspects, they were not found.

“It just sickens you to see people treat other people like that,” said Bain.

Police ask anyone with information to call them immediately.
