(KMOV) – At least four Metro-East schools are without air conditioning, but News 4 is told that issue is not mechanical.
In some cases the issue is vandalism or theft. Copper is a high commodity, and thieves are going after it.
The East St. Louis School District sent a letter home saying Lincoln and Madison Middle schools, Officer Elementary School, and Vivian Adams Early Learning Centers are all in need of air conditioning repairs.
The district has purchased 150 fans. The air conditioning repairs could take two to four weeks because most of the parts need to be ordered.
Bottled water will also be available to students during hot days.
