(KMOV.com) –The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued warrants against the man they believe is responsible for the robbery and beating of an elderly man in Town and Country on Friday.
Daniel Martin, 20, was charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, first-degree burglary and stealing a motor vehicle and over $500.
According to police, Thomas R. Ruzicka, 60, was found unconscious in the 12900 block of Thornhill Dr. around 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Police say Ruzicka rents the home.
Police say Martin also took a black 2005 Ford Explorer, which was later found in the 6100 block of Lucille in St. Louis city. Electronics stolen from the home are still missing.
The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has been activated to assist in the investigation. Authorities say the Major Case Squad was called in because of Ruzicka’s condition.
“His prognosis was less than favorable so in an abundance of caution, Town and Country asked if Major Case could come and assist them,” said Lt. Mike Thompson of the Chesterfield Police Department.
In 2010, Ruzicka plead guilty to embezzlement charges, admitting to stealing thousands from his employees at Ruzicka Electric. A judge ordered him to repay $96,000.
Court documents also show Ruzicka fell behind on paying taxes and unemployment benefits, but detectives don’t believe his past is linked to the beating.
Martin is being held on a $150,000 bond.
