Suspect killed in undercover drug bust identified

(KMOV) – A man is dead and a police officer is injured during an undercover drug bust in north St. Louis County.

It happened just after 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Brighton Apartments in the 2700 block of Glyndesbourne. That's near I-270 and Old Halls Ferry Road.

Police say an undercover narcotics unit was investigating two suspects in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

One of the suspects, Pearce Cosey, was in a vehicle by himself when officers approached.

Police say that as the officers came closer, Cosey drove his vehicle forward, hitting another car and pinning an officer between the two vehicles.

That's when police say two other detectives fired several shots at Cosey, killing him.

The injured officer is in fair condition at an area hospital. The officer is in his 20s, and has been on the force for only a couple of years.

The second man at the scene cooperated with detectives and was questioned. He has not been charged in this case.
