(KMOV)  --  St. Louis fire crews were called in to battle a three-alarm fire at a high-rise apartment building in the Central West End.

The fire broke out on an outdoor sundeck at the West End City Apartments at 275 Union around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, flames appeared to be shooting out of the roof of the 17-story building. The biggest challenge for fire crews was getting their equipment up several flights of stairs.

Everyone was able to get out of the building. One person was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No official word yet on that person's condition.

Fire officials have not said what sparked the fire.
