2 Women who said abuse spurred killings released

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Two women who said they killed their husbands more than 30 years ago to escape abusive relationships are out of prison.

A lawyer for 65-year-old Carlene Borden and 55-year-old Vicky Williams say they were freed on parole Friday morning.

The women had been in prison for nearly 32 years. Their attorneys have been trying for years to get them out, saying they killed their husbands because of constant physical, sexual and verbal abuse.

A 2007 Missouri law allows parole after 15 years for battered women convicted of murder and sentenced to lengthy prison terms.
