(KMOV) -- City Grocers opened their doors in 2004 on the corner of 10th and Olive in St. Louis, but when the doors close Friday night they will be closing for good.
The downtown grocery store once served as the only place to buy groceries in its area, but a Schnucks Market opened near by recently. This prompted the store to try to reinvent themselves, by naming the story City Gourmet, but it didn't work.
Today customers racked up on their last meals from what was left on mostly bare shelves of their favorite market.
The owner, Craig Heller, tells News 4 that it's too early to tell what will go in that spot next, but he expects an announcement to be made in the next few months.
