(KMOV)-- Two men were arrested for allegedly attacking a man and forcing him to become a member of a gang.
Jesus Flores, 19, and Luis Ortiz, 17, both from Granite City were charged with Compelling Organization Membership of a Person.
Authorities said a victim contacted police Saturday to report that he was beaten by three individuals Friday night while he was at a party at 2906 State Route #111 in Granite City, Illinois.
The victim reported that he was invited to the party by someone known to him, a juvenile. The victim reported that he was standing outside when he was told by a group consisting of the juvenile, Flores, and Ortiz that they wanted him to join their gang, the CV-155. The victim told the group that he did not want to join their gang. The group proceeded to punch and kick him. After the beating, the group told the victim that he was now “one of them.” They also told him that he needed to recruit members for the gang. The victim told the group that he did not want to be a part of their gang and left the party.
Authorities said the victim went to his residence and was taken to the hospital by a parent. The victim suffered a concussion and a broken jaw.
Florea, Ortiz, and the juvenile were taken into custody. Flores and Ortiz were held in the Madison County Jail pending formal charges. The juvenile was held in the Madison County Juvenile Detention Home and the matter is being referred to through the Juvenile Court System.
Bond was set at $100,000.
