(KMOV) -- St. Louis County police are investigating after racial slurs were written on the wall and on a dryer in the laundry room of the Lavinia Garderns apartment complex.

A resident who lives in Lavinia Gardens apartment complex alerted News 4 to the situation. The resident found the racial slurs written inside the laundry room at the apartment complex.

The resident says only one black family resides at this apartment complex.

Bertha Preston says she discovered graffiti that uses the “n-word.” “As far as I know, we’re the only black family that lives out here and it scared me because why would somebody write something like that about somebody?” Preston asked.

She says she thinks the slurs were directed at her.

St. Louis County police are investigating, but are not yet calling it a hate crime. However, they are looking for the suspect.
