(KMOV) – An East St. Louis auxiliary police officer who also volunteers at a local school has been arrested and charged with allegedly sending inappropriate pictures to a 14-year-old girl.

Lt. Jim Morrisey with the Illinois State Police says that Carey Harrison, 25, has been charged with distribution of harmful materials.

Police say Harrison sent the lewd pictures over a text message to the young girl. This investigation began in May, but charges were just filed at the end of last week. Investigation began when the teen’s aunt alerted officials about the lewd messages.

East St. Louis supt. and police chief said they did a background check on Harrison before making him an auxiliary officer, and he was clean. He had no arrest authoritiy but could write parking violations and transfer prisoners.

Harrison was a volunteer coach and helped with after school activities at Clark Middle School for 7 months, but will no longer be allowed to be at the school.

Harrison is being held on a $15,000 bond.
