Missouri haunted house in '09 shooting mishap reopens

OLD MONROE, Mo. (AP) -- A northeast Missouri haunted house attraction where a customer was accidentally shot last year has reopened with a new owner.

A worker at the Cobb Factory Haunted House in Old Monroe accidentally fired a blank cartridge from a .50-caliber rifle when the patron tugged on the worker's costume. The customer has since filed a lawsuit against the former operator.

With Halloween approaching, a company called Fear Factory Haunted House issued a news release this week saying the only shooting this year would be on the part of licensed law enforcement officers hired as security guards.
Old Monroe is located along the Mississippi River in Lincoln County, about 35 miles northwest of St. Louis.
