This will be a quick one tonight. Following up my earlier blog about the Rams, Mike Silver is a respected writer. If he goes with a story then he obviously believes it has plenty of legs. But I need more than a few quotes from Eddie DeBartolo to believe the Rams are on the way out of town. I have good reason to believe that Chip Rosenbloom will try to steer the Rams to a buyer or buyers that would keep the team in St. Louis just as Bill Laurie did with the Blues. And since the Rams are obligated by lease to remain here through the 2015 season, I'm going to sleep okay tonight and tomorrow night.
The thing I do fear is another work stoppage. The owners' vote to terminate the collective bargaining agreement two years early opens the door for a strike or lockout after the 2010 season. I'd like to think the owners and players are smart enough not to let that happen. That might be wishful thinking. I'm betting on a work stoppage long before a move out of town by the Rams.
Watching the Cards--Padres game, we're discussing all of Greg Maddux's accomplishments and we're in awe in the sports department. He's won 13 or more games in 20 straight years. His 350 wins rank ninth all-time. He won four straight Cy Young Awards and has 17 Gold Glove Awards on his resume. I hesitate to say this as ridiculous as it sounds but I think Maddux has been worth every penny of the 143 million dollars he's been paid in the majors.
