We were on Wilson Avenue in University City today. One year ago the neighborhood was under waist-deep floodwaters. Several residents are hoping for buy-outs and one neighbor said she believes they'll start in the next few weeks.
But right now, residents aren't sure just what they'll be offered for their homes. There is also a "dividing line" on which homes will be eligible. The homes along Wilson Avenue with yards that back up to the River Des Peres (in this area it's really something of an overgrown creek that has difficulty handling heavy rains) will be eligible for the buy-out. But one woman with a home right across the street says she won't be eligible. She doesn't think it's fair. She says the flood water that's in her basement is the same water that's in her neighbors' homes across the street.
