That murder-suicide in South St. Louis (Park and Ewing intersection) around 8:00 Friday morning comes a month after police say the murder victim got an order of protection against her estranged boyfriend and father of three of her four kids.
Police say the suspect (37) shot and killed the woman (27) while she was in her van with their kids apparently about to take them to school. He then walked into the backyard they used to share and shot and killed himself.
A neighbor who knew the troubled couple spoke candidly about their situation but his most poignant comment came as we were about to say good-bye to one another.
He was talking about how he was glad the woman got an order of protection against the man he says she says was beating her, but went on to say, "Women got it hard. When a guy's got his mind made up to do something to a woman, can't nobody stop him."
That may not be true in every case, but sadly it was in this one.
What a waste.
