Keeping vigil for officer in crash with tractor trailer

Dozens of St. Louis police officers continue to wait outside St. Louis University Hospital hoping for good news on their injured colleague.

The only good news at this point is he's alive. Doctors say he's in very critical condition and is not conscious.

The police department is not releasing the name of the officer injured in a crash with a tractor trailer shortly before 1pm Tuesday afternoon. It happened at Broadway and Arsenal in South St. Louis.

Police tell us he's 23-years old and in December will mark his two-year anniversary on the force.

They tell us he has a wife but no kids. His wife, his parents and other family members are here at SLU Hospital as well. We're keeping a respectful distance.

We have not seen Chief Dan Isom. Turns out he's out of town. Mayor Slay stopped by to get a progress report on the officer.

We of course will keep you posted on any developments regarding his condition here at kmov.com.
