We dropped by Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church this afternoon. Volunteers were there getting ready for a spaghetti dinner and barbecue fundraiser. The money raised goes to Backstoppers.
We talked with Jim Przada. I guess you could say he wears three hats. He's with the church. He's also with Backstoppers. He's also a Sgt. in the 9th District with the St. Louis Police Department. He agreed that any event like this is bittersweet. He said in seven of the eight years that the church has had this fundraiser there has been a death of a police officer or firefighter. This time it was Officer Julius Moore. He died October 15th, nine days after being in an accident while he was on his way to help other officers in need of assistance. Moore was a Normandy High School graduate with a wife and three young children. Backstoppers will now help his family pay their bills.
There will be another fundraiser coming up for Backstoppers--
The annual Third District Flag Football game will be held October 24th at 1:00 pm at Cherokee Park at 3428 Lemp.
