The Rams got more help from 49ers quarterback Shaun Hill and the Rams were able to tack on a Josh Brown 38 yard field goal for a 13-3 lead at the half. There are two ways to look at the first half for the Rams. Obviously having the lead is great but I have a feeling that the Rams did not maximize their opportunities. The 49ers turned the ball over three times in the first half and yet the Rams are only up by 10. When a team is giving the ball away like that you have to bury them and the Rams have not done that. I have a very uneasy feeling that the Rams will regret not scoring more in the first half.
Steven Jackson had a good first half with 71 yards rushing. What is interesting is that in the final drive before the half he was not on the field. The Rams used Kenneth Darby effectively and got a field goal. The reason that the Rams did not have Jackson on the field I suspect is that Jackson is such an awful blocker that in passing situations they have to take him off the field. A great running back can block too. That they have to yank Steven Jackson off the field tells you something.
Marc Bulger has been effective throwing for 171 yards with no interceptions. The Rams are doubling the 49ers in time of possession and have not allowed a sack. All in all a good half of football but we'll see if not burying the Niners will come back to haunt this team.
