Do you remember?

Quick...hum the theme song to your favorite TV show.

Well? I tried, but other than CSI Miami, which uses a favorite song from The Who, I usually draw a blank on current TV shows. I wonder why, because most of us can remember the theme song to our favorite shows when we were kids. That's why the death of a largely unknown producer this week is so sad.

I'll bet from just looking at this picture...the whistling theme song to The Andy Griffith Show is playing through your head. Earle Hagen not only wrote that song, he actually did the whistling in the now-famous recording!

Hagen died yesterday at the age of 88, and may be the most famous producer you never knew. He also penned songs for "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "I Spy", and "Gomer Pyle, USMC"! They just don't put that kind of effort in to programming these days. I got the chance to meet Sherwood Schwartz one time, who not only produced but wrote the lyrics for The Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island. Wow - can you ever get those songs out of your head? I still covet my picture with Marsha Brady.
