If you don't know it by know...Anheuser-Busch is on the brink of being bought out by a Belgium brewer named In-Bev. They make Stella Artois, among other beers, but they have their eye squarely on Bud and Bud Light. The Post ran a great story last weekend about how it would affect the psyche of St. Louis to lose this part of our heritage, and I think they're right. Now - some well-intentioned beer drinkers have started a petition effort to let AB know that we want them to stay American! Here's what it says, and the link will follow so you can sign up:
Since 1852 Anheuser-Busch has been an American Owned and operated business. In addition to great tasting beer, this company has provided thousands of domestic jobs as well as millions of dollars in charitable donations to nonprofit organizations, disaster relief and has a long history of environmental awareness. Anheuser-Busch is a huge supporter of our military and their families both here and abroad and is ranked in the 'Top 50 Military-Friendly Employers'.
Recently in the news, talk of a hostile take over of the company have been prevalent. Let's band together as one voice and try to save more than just our beer. We don't want another American icon turned over to a foreign company; we want the motto to remain...The Great American Lager.
Bottom line - this may be the equivalent of taking a ball-peen hammer to a battleship. This is all about the stockholders, who stand to make a fortune if the stock is sold for $65 a share or more. I don't think the board could turn down an offer like that, but we can always hope there some shred of empathy left in them. And really - what do you have to lose?
