(KMOV)—Nixon signed a bill on Wednesday, merging Missouri Highway Patrol and Missouri Water Patrol as one unit.
The bill moves the Missouri State Water Patrol to the Missouri State Highway Patrol where it will be known as the Division of Water Patrol. Both patrols will still be apart of the Missouri Department of Public Safety.
There will be no reduction in staff or troopers with either agency. Also the governor said combining the two agencies will improve law enforcement coverage.
With this bill, they are expecting to have $3 million in administrative savings a year.
The merge will take effect on January 1, 2011.
