(KMOV)- Tony Sparks received a Certificate of Recognition and was called a local hero on Tuesday by the Madison County Sheriff's Office for pulling 65 year old Barbara Nowack out of her sinking car on June 27.
Nowack's car spun out of control after hitting debris on the Great River Road, and ended up about 30 feet into the Mississippi River.
Sparks was in the area and swam out to pull the 65 year old woman from her car as it sank in the river.
