(KMOV) -- Boeing machinists voted Sunday morning at Chaifetz Arena to accept the company’s latest contract proposal.
Union members voted 1,237 to 838 to approve the contract, but boos could be heard after the final vote was announced.
Union president Gordon King said while he is still not satisfied with the agreement, he believes that the current economic climate has a lot to do with why more than 1200 people ratified the contract.
Boeing put in the work to get the contract approved, even putting a full page ad in the Post Dispatch Saturday. The company said the contract will let the company stay competitive while keeping jobs in the St. Louis area.
The new contract goes into effect immediately and will not expire until January, 2015
