(KMOV) -- A man who vowed to never return to the life of crime that landed him in prison may be going back.

Robert Childers, who talked to News 4 last year about how he was a changed man after being released from prison for shooting two police officers, has been arrested for two counts of felony stealing by police.

Police said Childers stole women's purses from bars on North Main St. in St. Charles on June 5 and June 24 this year. Police said Childers was seen in a bar in the Historic Downtown St. Charles area taking a woman's purse and was confronted by police and arrested. Childers confessed to the crime, and those that happened on June 5.

Childers was arrested in 1986 for shooting two police officers, Mark Armfield and Tim Lowery. He was released last year from prison after being sentenced to consecutive life sentences plus 80 years.

Childers is also a registered sex offender after a 1978 rape case.
