(KMOV) – Officials at a news conference on Wednesday revealed that two corrections officers have been suspended surrounding the case of two teens who escaped from a medium security prison on Hall Street earlier that same day.
Corrections officer Gene Stubblefield admitted that mistakes were made, and he says he is ready to make sure some corrections staff pay the price for what he called a breakdown in procedure that allowed the two teens to escape.
Officials say that the two teens clogged a toilet to flood their cell and create a distraction that allowed them to escape.
Police tracked down the escapees, Eric Gray and Kurt Wallace, both 17, to the 5900 block of Wabada in north St. Louis where they eluded capture several times by changing clothes.
Stubblefield insists that the jail is secure, but it seems some changes are ahead and more corrections officers may find themselves in trouble.
