ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) -- A suspect who allegedly fired several shots during an encounter with St. Charles police is in critical condition after being shot by an officer.
Police were called to a home at 3:09 a.m. Wednesday on a report that a man had shot himself. Officers found the 28-year-old man outside the home still armed with a handgun.
Police say officers tried to negotiate, but the suspect fired several shots. An officer returned fire, striking the suspect.
The officer is on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation. Names of the officer and the suspect were not released.
