(KMOV) -- The last drive-in theater in the area will stay in business.
Like many places in this slow-moving economy, the Skyview Drive-In in Belleville was having budget problems. Owner Steve Bloomer needed to strike a deal with the city to stay in business, and he succeeded.
The city will use tax increment financing (TIF) to pay for the demolition of the Old Bac Quad Cinema building near Skyview. After the demolition, Skyview will add a third screen and stay in business for another ten years, or face penalties.
Belleville is in a budget crunch, but the mayor says that they cannot use the TIF money for anything but development. It will pay the estimated $150,000 to $225,000 for demolition in order to keep an iconic piece of Belleville history that has been around since 1949.
