Today I'm reporting on a 3 year old boy who accidentally shot himself in the chest with a revolver. He died. The second guessing is obvious. Why was a loaded gun left anywhere a child could get to it? (The family says the gun was there because the mother's boyfriend had been robbed in April and shot at multiple times in that incident and got the gun for protection.) That said, the police have to determine if negligence was involved... did little Brandon Tate's mother know there was a loaded gun in the house and did she know it was accessible? Then there's another difficult question.... has she suffered enough already with the loss of a child, would charges really be necessary to punish her? There are many days I am glad I do not have to make these decisions.
