(KMOV) -- A vigil is being held to honor a postal worker who died after being struck by lightning.

Mourners will meet at 9844 West Florissant at 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening and walk to Highmont and Venice drives where the accident took place. The vigil will start at 9 p.m.

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the 9700 block of Venice in Jennings.

Authorities say a neighbor heard a loud boom from an apparent lighting strike. The neighbor looked out the window and saw letter carrier Christine Jones, 34, on the ground.

Emergency workers responded to the scene and tried to revive Jones. She was pronounced dead at Christian Hospital North East.

Jones leaves behind a four-year-old son and a fiancé.

Sources say Jones worked for the postal office for about four years. She worked out of the Jennings Branch near Lucas Hunt and Halls Ferry Road.

Friends and family plan to hold a vigil at the scene of her death Thursday evening at 9:00.
