New postal scam targeted disabled nun

(KMOV) – The U.S. Postal Service is investigating a scam that tried to get money from a disabled nun.

Dominican Sister Pauline Blandina received a second billing notice in the mail from a strange company called Construct Data.

The bill claims it is for a listing in a guide for an assistive technology fair. Blandina is wheelchair bound after an accident and has visited the fair but never authorized a listing.

The Post Office says the bill was not affiliated with the fair. Her name is mentioned online but there is no guide book. The bill was for $1700.

The postal inspector told Blandina to ignore it. He says that if you’ve not done business with a company to ignore false bills. If you suspect you may have, ask for written proof of your involvement.

The Post Office says small businesses are most at risk for these types of scams. Book keepers may not realize the bills are not legitimate.
