(KMOV) – A broken water main on Hampton Avenue led crews to discover a collapsed sewer main.

The water main break caused part of the road to buckle on Hampton near Sulfur Avenue. The break also led Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District crews to discover a collapsed sewer main in the same area.

The sewer main is believed to be between 50 and 80 years old.

Drivers are being advised to avoid Hampton Avenue between Interstate 44 and Interstate 64.

MSD says that crews will be working around the clock until the main is fixed. There will be limited lane closures on Hampton during the repair work.

All lanes are expected to reopen by Saturday.
