(KMOV) – An unstable manhole cover in south St. Louis had one resident wondering what was going on.
Manhole covers are heavy and typically weigh more than 100 pounds, but Curt Morrison says the manhole cover at Texas and Arsenal was bouncing up and down. He also says that nearby, water was percolating up through the asphalt for about 20 minutes.
The Missouri Sewer District says the problem can be traced to a water main. The St. Louis water division says they looked into the issue on Monday, and that there was a broken water main that may have caused the problem due to an underground pressure build up.
A spokesperson says it shouldn't happen again.
