(KMOV)-- Police are investigating after shots were fired into the Wellston City Hall.

Authorities said 8-9 rounds were fired around 8 a.m. Monday morning.

Police Chief G. Thomas Walker believes the shooting was a retaliation for the crack down on crime in the area.

No employees were hit, but several were inside the building during the incident.

There are currently no cameras around the building, but that may change. Chief Walker is asking his officers to patrol the neighborhoods of the mayor and council members more frequently. At this point, there is no description of the suspect(s) or vehicle involved in the shooting.  If anyone has any information call the Wellston Police Department at 314-553-8010.
