(KMOV) – Heroin is responsible for another death in Madison County, Illinois and officials say it is quickly becoming the drug of choice for teens.
Since January, 12 heroin-related deaths have been reported in Madison County alone. Last year, a total of 18 people in that area died from the deadly drug, while only seven people died in 2009.
Officials are saying heroin has become the drug of choice, especially for teens, because it is cheap and easy to locate. They also believe the number of deaths resulting from heroin use will continue to skyrocket.
Most people who die from a heroin overdose range from age 18 to 60.
