KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A 41-year-old Kansas City man faces charges in connection with allegedly stealing computers from a Joplin elementary school damaged in last month's tornado.
It was reported that Charles Rice has been charged with four counts of receiving stolen property and was jailed Tuesday on $10,000 bond.
Rice, however, told Kansas City police he did not visit Joplin and didn't steal the computers. Online court records don't list a lawyer for Rice.
Police said they found out about the stolen computers when they were called by the owner of a computer technical support company. The owner said Rice called seeking help unlocking the password-lock on one of the computers.
Police said they linked the computers to Emerson Elementary School, which sustained severe damage in the May 22 EF-5 tornado.
