(KMOV) – The St. Charles School District could face a multi-million dollar budget deficit because of two businesses they are suing which are trying avoid paying school taxes.
School districts in St. Charles are counting on that money, so if the disputed figure isn’t large enough, they’ll file a lawsuit against the county to get it while the protest is being settled.
However, if the businesses win and get to pay fewer taxes, the school districts have to pay the money back.
The Fort Zumwalt School District received more than $770,000 in disputed tax money for 2010. The majority of which is paid by Ameren. Meanwhile, St. Charles is seeking more than $4 million. Just about all of that is protested taxes from the Ameristar Casino.
