ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Thousands of people flocked Saturday to the streets of downtown St. Louis for the 13th annual Susan G. Komen ‘Race for the Cure.’
More than 60,000 men, women and children participated in the event to help raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an international organization with a mission is saving lives and ending breast cancer forever.
This year’s participants had the choice of taking on a one or 5K Run/Walk down14th, Olive, 20th and Market Streets.
Davis Payne and Cam Janssen of the St. Louis Blues were the 2011 Co-Chairs of the Race.
More than $2 million has been raised this year for the cause.
Seventy-five percent of all proceeds stay in St. Louis to help fund breast cancer screening, treatment, education and support programs.
The remaining 25 percent goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program.
