CLINTON, Ill. (AP) -- A former central Illinois sheriff's deputy once honored for trying to save three drowning children is accused of sexually abusing a girl.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that 38-year-old Timothy Collins of Clinton was arrested Wednesday on eight counts of criminal sexual abuse. He's accused of molesting a Clinton girl younger 17 in April.
Collins was released on bond and couldn't be reached for comment. No phone is listed for him in the Clinton area and court officials say he doesn't yet have an attorney.
Collins is scheduled to be arraigned June 13.
Collins was the Illinois Sheriff's Association's 2004 deputy of the year for his efforts to save three children who drowned in Clinton Lake. He left that job two years ago.
