Metro Police offer device to help prevent auto theft

St. Louis (KMOV) -- The Fifth District of the Metropolitan Police Department will be selling car clubs on Saturday, June 11, 2011 to help prevent automobiles from being stolen.
The event will take place in the parking lot of the Mobil Gas Station located at North Grand and Natural Bridge.
The car clubs are designed to attach to a vehicle’s steering column, prevent the steering wheel from turning, and ultimately make the theft of a vehicle nearly impossible.
The clubs, which normally sell for approximately $40 retail, will be sold at the
discounted rate of $13. Clubs will be sold on a first-come first-serve basis. Buyers must have cash.

Police say that auto theft is often a crime of opportunity for thieves and they attack vehicles that appear to be easy targets. The club is a highly successful anti-theft device that’s been shown to deter car theft.

The event is open to everyone, regardless of residence.
